Social media news blog, Mashable, was declared the most popular UK blog in research identifying the 50 most popular blogs in the UK.
Tech blogs, such as UK.techcrunch, nevillehobson.com and the BBC’s tech blogs, featured heavily. However, the political blogs from the likes of Iain Dale and Guido Fawkes (who recently broke the story resulting in Damian McBrides resignation) are surprising winners in the research, with thirteen blogs in the top 50, and three in the top5. The other UK heavy hitters are blogs from the mainstream media such as the FT’s Alpahaville and blogs from the likes of the BBC and the Guardian. The research, carried out by media monitoring and intelligence firm Cision, will be updated regularly. Blogs tend to be snapshots of conversations at the time, and Falk Rehkopf, head of research at Cision Europe warns that “communication professionals should be careful and not misunderstand this as a readymade contact list. The golden rules of communication apply more than ever in a social media context: understand who you are talking to – and why – before you engage.”
