The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced that it is cancelling its corporate hospitality at Wimbledon after two days of hosting guests at the tennis tournament.

The bank has been dealing with a “technical issue” over the past few days that has seen thousands of RBS, Natwest and Ulster Bank customers unable to bank as normal.

RBS is a traditional sponsor of Wimbledon, and a spokeswoman told the Press Association that its sponsorship of sporting events would be unaffected. However, it felt that it would be “inappropriate” to continue with corporate hospitality over the next fortnight.

The bank announced yesterday that the update of customer account balances with RBS and Natwest had been cleared, apart from a few sets of transactions, and that it would now turn its attention to Ulster Bank customers.

It has been suggested that RBS should provide compensation to its customers as a result of the issues. Natwest has communicated with customers via text to inform them that branches are open for longer hours all week in order to help deal with the backlog, and that there should be sufficient customer support in place.
